RESEARCH THAT 22 250

Postby BLong » Sun Nov 08, 2009 12:31 am

MY BROTHER AND I JUST PURCHASED A .243 FOR OUR FATHER AS A RETIREMENT GIFT. THE "GUN EXPERT" AT BASS PRO IN BALTIMORE, MD STATED THE 22 250 HAS HAD ISSUES WITH THE SHELLS "BURNING THE BREECHES". APPARENTLY BECAUSE IT IS SUCH A FAST AND HOT ROUND OVER TIME, IT BURNS THE BREECH. I DONT KNOW OR HAVE EVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE BUT THOUGHT YOU MAY WANT TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER BEFORE YOU BUY ONE. HOPE THIS HELPS. HE ALSO SAID IT WAS CALIBER SPECIFIC NOT MANUFACTURE. WE ARE REMINGTON LOVERS. UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAVE A WINCHESTER .270 MODEL 700(PAID $250 FROM FRIEND WHO WAS HARD UP FOR CASH-NEVER SHOT) THAT I PERSONALLY THINK IS CRAP. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU CLEAN AND OIL THE BOLT IT IS STILL JERKY.
WE BOUGHT THE REMINGTON 700 CDL .243 CAL. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL GUN AND MAN DOES IT SHOOT GREAT. WE ALSO HAVE MY PERSONAL FAVORITE REM. MODEL 700 .223.
GOOD LUCK!!! I'LL KEEP MY EYE OUT FOR YA!
I live back in the woods you see, my woman and the kids and the dogs and me,
I've got a shotgun, a rifle, and a four wheel drive
And a country boy can survive-Hank Jr.

Depends on what you plan on using it for? G.Hogs, Foxes, Coyotes????

If your going to use it for foxes and don't want any fur damage, I would't use 223., 204Ruger, 22-250 ect.... Unless you use a full metal jacket and even than you'll probably get fur damage.

I have a H&R 204Ruger with heavy barrel topped with a Nikon 4.5 x 14 and its deadly accurate and relatively en expensive. I think I paid under $300 for the gun new. And don't let the price fool you, it will shoot with the best of them. Only downfall its a little on the heavy side but so are most good long range varmit guns.

If your looking for a gun you can use for varmits or deer I would go with the 243. Even the little 17hmr will do the trick. I use that mostly when I'm fox hunting. And it will put one in the eye of a ground hog at 100 yards with no problem.

what kind of varmints you after? If it's small game like foxes and squirrels, then I don't think you need more than a .177 air rifle like this one.
