Big Rub=Big buck? Small Rub=Small buck?

You have surely heard the argument that Bigger deer will generally rub on larger trees. And many think that just out of common sense. That would leave us with the asumption that only big deer rub on large trees and that only smaller deer rub on smaller trees. Is this True? OR whats the real deal?

Based on the 23 years of professional hunting experience that I have I would say that as a general rule this is true. I've been fortunate enough to guide for some of the best Whitetail hunting operation there are. While at these places I cannot remember ever seeing a big buck rub on a single tiny tree. On the occasions that I did see a big buck rub on something small it was always a cluster of small trunks. Likewise, I have never seen a small buck rub against anything but small trees.

I agree nothing is set in stone, and just when you think you have them figured out, they change. Look around the rub for tracks, or scrapes. These will give you a good idea on what size deer you're looking for.
