Storing Your Gun In Your Gun Case

Postby GotHuntingGear » Tue Jan 25, 2011 7:24 pm

A helpful tip to all. I found out the hard way. A few years ago I cleaned my rifle but I must have left some moisture or something around the stock by the barrel, and after I cleaned it I put it in my gun case for the year. Well, the next following hunting season I got it out and noticed it was all rusted and I figured it was from storing it with it being wet. So the next year I made sure it was completely dry when I put it away and guess what it was just fine. So I come to the conclusion that it doesn't take much to make it rust especially when it is sealed tight for almost a year. Well, I hope you guys learned something from my wrong doing.

That is a good tip. One rule I follow is after I clean my guns, I let them sit for a day to make sure there is no moisture in them. THen I put them away.

Do the same thing with any type of hunting device. Always let the moisture (may it be water or solvent or any other types of liquids) dry completely before storing you gun anywhere. Even in a gun safe. I know some of these new safes are pretty airtight. Just keep that in mind.

I don't store them in the gun case, just in the gun cabinet with a small heating device made for the cabinet. Never had a problem.

As a follow on ----> Saw these back seat gun racks. Just don't use them when the kids are back there. LOL.

thanks for nice tips from you GotHuntingGear :Very Happy:
as this could help me alot and in addition to that i would suggest that it's more better if you put a silica gel on the case just to prevent from moisture :dealer:
hope this would also help to other readers. :glad:
