My Baby Girls

Postby stegengrl » Fri Sep 29, 2006 2:46 pm

Wanted to show you guys my baby girls (Daisy and Mable)... we have raised deer for 3 years now, and these were our first set of girls... I was happy. I'm not sure what everyone thinks of people raising deer, but we are whitetail obsessed and this was one way for us to learn more about them..... hope ya'll enjoy the pic.

I agree totally....I don't know if you know this or not, but fawns, you have to make them go pee and #2, in ways that you would not image! lol
Anyway, with the girls we only had to make them do it for a week, and the bucks.... took them 1 month to catch on. hah. Slow.....

aww....adorable!! nothing cuter than a baby (anything).

May be a stupid question, but what do you do with the deer when they grow up? Do you raise them for meat and eat them yourself? Do you own like a hunting ranch or something? Sorry...just curious. I think it would be cool to raise them, just not sure what I'd do with them.....

We raised a deer when I was younger when its mother was killed. We bottle fed her, had a diaper on her in the house, but we let her run free and come and go as she pleased when she was a little older. It was cool cause she used to stand and wait on the bus with us. She'd be there when we got home and would always try to come into the house with us. We called her Bambi. LOL Eventually she never returned.

We haven't quite figured it out yet, we still have all of them plus the offspring since we started. I know we aren't going to sell them to a shooting ranch, but they will probally go to a farm just for breeding.... bloodlines, nothing cruel. I am way to attached to them, when you bottle feed fawns for 9 weeks, every 4 hours, that happens. :) It's cool to raise them but it is tiring.

:glad: They are so cute. I'd love to be able to have the time to do something like that. We have horses and when baby season rolls around we have had times when the baby deer come out and play with our foals. It is so cute to watch!
