Hunting Plots

Postby Full Throttle Hunting » Wed Sep 03, 2008 3:16 pm

I was just curious what does everyone prefer for a food plot planting. I have some red clover that gets some action but primarily at night. I planted Maximum for after the frost and hope for it to produce. I also was curious to see if anyone had that magic food plot seed that would pull deer in from anywhere. The neighboring property to my land has beans every year and I find it hard to pull deer from that parcel during daylight hours.

We planted Maximum this year and threw in some Buck Forage Oats with it. That way we have some early season drawing power to it with the oats, then when the frost/freeze comes, the maximum should be good to go. First time we've tried the combination so hopefully it will do well.

It's hard to say what will pull them over to your side during daylight. Only thing you can do is try different seed and wait and see. Maybe see if you can get some sample packs of a few different varieties and plant them all side by side, then observe.

We don't have a food plot. Would like to get one out where we hunt...
My father is getting a plot ready. He's got it all planned out and has it tilled up now...hope it works out for him.

I usually mix everything up, this year we planted 5 acres of corn in the spring, this fall we planted 3 acres of clover and buck forage oats on the same farm.

I've had nice success with buck forage oats. The deer love it!

mixture of clover, brassica, buck wheat, and rye... brings 'em in...now if the guy in the back would stop comming onto our property at night and shooting deer then i'd be good. been a real crappy season so far deer just seemed to vanish but i'm sill seeing signs like a huge rub

Well this year I'm trying something else. I planted 1/2 acre of Pure Attraction and 1/2 acre of Winter Greens right next to my acre of red clover. Hopefully, 1 of the 3 will be a hot.
