Doe deer have antlers too

Doe deer have antlers too

I know most bucks lose there antlers, but if you do see antlers on a deer it is most likely a doe that grew antlers. They say that doe's will never lose there antlers. Ya, I know your thinking doe's don't have antlers, but they do. I actually had somebody in our hunting group shoot a deer and it had all the female parts, but with antlers. I guess it is very rare, but it happens! Has anybody else ever seen this?

Interesting. So how would you know if it was a doe with antlers when your up in a stand? I guess you don't really have any way of knowing. But that is pretty cool.

the first one i had no clue it had horns it was 175 yrds away! The second was only 50 yrds when i first seen it and i knew it was a doe cause it always had 2 fawns with it and one was suckling on it's teets during bow season!

I didn't see it again till i shot it during the rifle season and it still had the 2 fawns with it!

Do you have any idea what causes some does to have antlers and the rest not too? There has to be some kind of genetic mix up or something.

just like in humans, does carry a small trace amount of testosterone, and bucks carry a trace amount of estrogen! From what the DNR told us when i shot the first one, for some reason the doe which grow horns have more testosterone in them then the other ones do!

Now i don't know if this is 100% true, but it was what the DNR told us!
