Close but no cigar

Postby adaye » Wed Apr 20, 2011 9:32 pm

Made it out opening morning. Nice to be in the turkey woods once again.

Called in 4 jakes first thing, they goobled and strutted all around the decoy at 15 yards but none of them fit the bill.

Got set up on another bird a few hundred yards away to only have the pretty hens lead the big boy around me. He came in to about 60 yards then the two hens he came with lead him off to my right. O'well, it happens. If weather permits I'll be out on Saturday.

Hey Adaye, nice post, do you ever think of adding some turkey locator calls to your arsenal? I know I use them a lot and you can get them pretty cheap on websites like this: Just in case you wanted to consider it. happy hunting!!

i used the squeling hen call this year and saw it work first hand as a gobbler was hung up about 80 yards away and wasn't comming in. i started blowing on the call like instructed and he dropped strut and ran in to me if i didn't shoot him i'm pretty sure he would've ran me over haha
